Dynamic stretches are the key to warming up before a run or workout. Performing stretches cold before a workout can cause injury to the muscle, which is why a dynamic stretch is a smarter way to prepare for a workout.
In this video, Robert Gillanders, DPT, demonstrates how to do a proper dynamic stretch through a back lunge. When stepping back into a lunge, make sure the front shit is vertical to the ground and the sternum and pubic bone are stacked on top of each other. The front leg should be straight ahead and the knee should not be drifting. Variations include using weights, moving quickly and stepping in different directions.
