Conditions We Treat
Labral Tears
What Is It?
The labrum is a ring of cartilage that deepens the shoulder socket and contributes to joint stability.
Labral tears, including SLAP tears, may occur due to trauma, dislocation, or repetitive overhead activity.
Symptoms
- Deep shoulder pain with overhead or behind-the-back movements
- Clicking, catching, or locking sensations
- Feelings of instability
- Loss of strength or endurance during overhead activities
Diagnosis
- History of trauma or repetitive stress
- Physical tests such as O’Brien’s, crank, or biceps load tests
- MRI arthrogram for definitive diagnosis
Treatment
Conservative Options:
- Activity modification and rest
- Physical therapy focusing on shoulder mobility and stabilization
- NSAIDs for inflammation control
Interventional Options:
- Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections
Surgical Options:
- Arthroscopic repair or debridement if conservative care fails
