Conditions We Treat
Biceps Tendinitis (Shoulder)
What Is It?
Shoulder biceps tendinitis involves inflammation or degeneration of the long head of the biceps tendon as it travels through the shoulder joint.
It is commonly associated with rotator cuff disease, shoulder impingement, or repetitive lifting and overhead activity.
Symptoms
- Pain in the front of the shoulder, especially with lifting or overhead movements
- Tenderness over the bicipital groove
- Pain worsened by elbow flexion or forearm rotation
- Popping or snapping sensations if the tendon subluxes or tears
Diagnosis
- Physical exam including Speed’s and Yergason’s tests
- History of repetitive lifting or overhead activity
- Ultrasound or MRI to evaluate the tendon and associated shoulder structures
Treatment
Conservative Options:
- Rest and avoidance of aggravating activities
- NSAIDs and ice therapy
- Physical therapy emphasizing shoulder stability and posture
Interventional Options:
- Corticosteroid injection into the biceps tendon sheath
- Shockwave therapy or PRP
Surgical Options:
- Tenodesis or tenotomy for persistent or severe cases
