It typically develops due to excess joint fluid from arthritis or meniscal injury.

Symptoms

  • Swelling behind the knee
  • Tightness or fullness, especially with extension
  • Possible rupture causing calf pain or swelling

Diagnosis

  • Ultrasound or MRI to confirm the cyst and identify underlying causes

Treatment

  • NSAIDs
  • Surgery rarely required
